Any student with academic ability or strong promise deserves the opportunity to benefit from Adelphi education, regardless of their financial means.

Adelphi scholarships are helping thousands of worthy students study and earn a degree at our university. With your help we can support even more.

There is no more powerful way to impact the life of a student. A college degree is an engine for social mobility. And it has enormous social benefits.

Adelphi’s support of students from underrepresented groups, including those who are the first in their family to attend college, has helped us gain recognition as a national leader in advancing social mobility. It has also helped us bring new perspectives and new talent to our campuses, to the benefit of all our students.

Paying It Forward

The list of donors who have made major gifts supporting scholarships is a long one—and an inspiring one. All of these gifts, and many others like them, will have an enduring impact on Adelphi and our students.

Samuel Fremd ’69

Samuel Fremd ’69, born in a displaced persons camp in Germany at the end of World War II, left $4 million to Adelphi to support nursing students who can’t afford tuition. He made this gift in appreciation of the care nurses provided his mother as she battled lung cancer.

Mildred Loughlin Kahane ’49

Mildred “Millie” Loughlin Kahane ’49, who received a scholarship that allowed her to become the first member of her family to attend college, left $1 million to the University to support nursing students. She had previously established several endowments, all as her way to “pay it forward.”

The Family of Jonathan Larson ’82

The family of the Pulitzer Prize-winning writer and composer of the musical RENT, Jonathan Larson ’82, bequeathed $1 million to support four annual scholarships for theater students.
