Adelphi continues to actively promote diversity and inclusion.
As a university in the incredibly diverse New York City area, and that welcomes students from 76 countries around the world, we draw our strength from the diversity of perspectives, experiences, interests and talents on our campuses.
We do more than just welcome a diverse student body. We support our students, encouraging engagement and the sharing of ideas, offering programs that increase belongingness, and providing guidance and assistance that lead to success.

Alumni and friends of the University generously support Adelphi’s increasingly diverse student body.
Judith Ammerman, MA ’64, MS ’73, is one of many whose donations benefit students who are first in their family to attend college. More than half of her planned gift of $1.5 million will endow scholarships for first-gen students.
Marc S. Strachan ’81, chair of the Board of Trustees, helped endow four multicultural scholarships to help students of color. Three of the awards are for students in nursing, math and the sciences, and Africa, Black and Caribbean Studies. The fourth is presented annually to a student who has overcome a significant challenge.
Deborah Viola ’84, PhD, who attended Adelphi on a full scholarship, established the endowed Daniel Viola Family Scholarship for Neurodiversity. Named for her son, the scholarships support students in the award-winning Bridges to Adelphi program, which provides specialized academic, social and vocational services to neurodiverse students.
