U.S. News & World Report, one of the leading sources for reviewing colleges across the country, has released its 2020 rankings for Best Graduate Schools, and the College of Nursing and Public Health has risen an impressive 49 spots and is now ranked 115 in the nation for Best Nursing Schools (Master’s).

For the Best Nursing Schools rankings, U.S. News surveyed the 584 nursing schools with master’s degree or doctoral programs accredited in late summer 2018 by either the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing. In total, 279 nursing programs responded to the U.S. News nursing statistical data collection. The programs are judged by a number of factors, including mean undergraduate GPA of entering students, faculty credentials, student-to-faculty ratio and the proportion of faculty members who were in active nursing practice.

Elaine Smith ’78, M.S. ’88, Ed.D., has served as interim dean of the College for the past two years and was appointed dean in March. “Dr. Smith has done an exemplary job of managing tremendous growth and expansion in the College of Nursing and Public Health,” said Steve Everett, D.M.A., Adelphi’s provost and executive vice president.

“Together with our faculty, I am delighted with the significant rise in the U.S. News and World Report rankings for our [College of Nursing and Public Health] graduate nursing programs,” Dr. Smith said. “Many variables come into consideration to account for such a substantive increase. Most importantly, it speaks to the preparedness of our students to undertake a rigorous course of study and the excellence of our faculty to support a state-of-the-science educational experience. Our faculty are expert clinicians, scholars and researchers who guide the students in their pursuit of a graduate degree and the career opportunities associated with its attainment. It is also an honor to be recognized by peer schools for the quality of our programs.”
