New Undergraduate and Transfer Students
Here you'll find step by step instructions and information on applying for financial aid. Our goal is to ensure an accurate and timely award with the maximum amount of financial aid possible to all who apply.
Adelphi requires the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for institutional grants, state, and federal aid. The school code is 002666. |
How to Apply for Financial Aid
Before completing the FAFSA, you (and at least one parent for dependent students) must create a Federal Student Aid (FSA) ID. You will need an FSA ID to access Federal Student Aid’s online systems and to sign your FAFSA.
The FAFSA uses your and your family’s financial information to determine eligibility for need-based federal and state financial aid. Submit your application as soon as possible using Adelphi’s federal school code: 002666.
To maximize your consideration for need-based aid, be sure to file your FAFSA by the priority deadline:
- November 1: Priority deadline for new Spring undergraduate and transfer students
- March 1: Priority deadline for new Fall First-Year students
- June 1: Priority deadline for new Fall Transfer students
New York State residents should complete the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) application. You’ll also see a link on your FAFSA confirmation page to the TAP application.
Adelphi’s TAP school code is 0010.
Following submission of your FAFSA, additional documentation may be requested. It’s important to respond promptly to requests for information to maximize the aid available.
- If selected for verification, additional documents must be requested before an aid package can be issued including tax returns, verification worksheets, household size information, and citizenship documentation.
- Before any federal assistance can be applied to your account, you must ensure that you have submitted your final high school transcript (for new first year students) or all transcripts from prior schools (for transfer students) to the Office of University Admissions. This ensures your financial aid awards are based on your correct academic standing.
- Federal loan recipients are required by the government to complete the following two additional steps (if moving forward with loan):
- Complete an online Entrance Counseling session (a short question/answer session regarding educational borrowing).
- Sign an electronic promise to repay all loans, known as a Master Promissory Note (MPN).
Loans are unable to be disbursed until these requirements are completed on the Federal Student Aid website. Each process can be accessed 24 hours a day and will take approximately 30 minutes to complete.
After you have been admitted and have submitted your FAFSA and required documents, you will receive a college financing plan, detailing your financial aid awards. Â Review this information and all accompanying materials.
This plan outlines your eligibility for the different types of financial aid including:
- scholarships and grants (free money)
- student loans (which must be repaid)
- work study
Be sure to review your enrollment and housing status indicated on your plan. If something has changed please contact us to update your preferences and recalculate your costs and financial aid, as necessary.
Upon registering for classes, an e-bill is generated for your review and payment. It can be accessed and viewed by logging into your eCampus account. The document will reflect all relevant charges and anticipated financial aid.
If you are a student pre-registering for the fall and spring semesters, you’ll be billed in June and November, respectively.
Health insurance charges may be visible to select students as well. Be sure to review the University’s health insurance requirements to better understand opting in or out of insurance.
To address outstanding balances, various payment options are available to you and your family. These include:
