Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to questions about Adelphi Plus, a vibrant learning community helping first-year students make a successful transition to college.
All incoming first-year year Adelphi students are invited to join the Adelphi Plus Learning Community.
Please note that students who are enrolled in another “signature program”, such as Honors College, Levermore Global Scholars, Learning Resource Program or First-Year Living-Learning Communities cannot enroll in our program.
Members of our learning community gain access to a special set of learning opportunities customized to their interests as well as chances to work with faculty to develop their interests and refine their skills. Our community also sees the advantages of participating in a smaller learning environment in which they can foster personal relationships with faculty, counselors and a smaller cohort of students, while taking part in a vibrant college campus. Students come from a range of backgrounds and are interested in many different majors and future careers.
- Students who value working with a member of the Adelphi Plus faculty and a transition counselor in their first year are a good fit for Adelphi Plus.
- Students interested in interdisciplinary education or a range of majors and minors and topics related to social justice.
Students will take general education classes that are part of Adelphi’s PATH general education program, along with courses in their major(s). These include:
Course Title | First-Year Semester |
---|---|
Art and Craft of Writing | Fall |
First-Year Seminars related to their interest | Fall |
Expository Writing and Research | Spring |
Topics in Social Justice | Spring |
In addition, students may take other courses to help them explore their interests such as Adelphi’s 360 Seminars.
In their second semester, students may work on independent study research projects with faculty mentor.
There are no restrictions that come with joining the Adelphi Plus Learning Community.
Students may declare a major in another program while taking PATH general education classes with Adelphi Plus. If they do so, they also will get access to PATH classes that suit their major.
Students who have not declared a major are also welcome, as the community will allow them to complete PATH classes first while exploring a variety of academic majors and disciplines.
Students may join the program by filling out the Adelphi Plus Interest Form.
Alternatively, students may take Adelphi Plus classes (provided there is space available) as a way to get to know the community before joining in the second semester of the first year. These classes are core classes that fulfill Adelphi PATH general education requirements.
No. There isn’t an additional cost for the Adelphi Plus Learning Community program.
