NYS Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP)
The focus of Adelphi's STEP Program is to expose students to the skills, knowledge and methodology required for success in a variety of STEM focused and licensed careers. We look forward to accepting our new group of students and working with you to ensure that the program is beneficial to your child.
Our Mission is to increase the number of historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged students prepared to enter college, and improve their participation rate in mathematics, science, technology, health-related fields, and the licensed professions.
Eligibility for STEP
STEP serves students from the Hempstead, West Hempstead, Westbury, Freeport, Malverne, Valley Stream school districts. Students that are outside of these school districts may join if enrollment space is available.
Students must be:
- Enrolled in Grades 7-12
- Economically disadvantaged*, or
Black, African American/Latino, Alaskan Native or American Indian; and will benefit from academic enrichment.

- Saturday STEM Academy with supplemental instruction in all core classes to improve students’ skills and abilities
- Math and Science enrichment, mentoring, and after-school tutoring
- Regents Review
- SAT/ACT Princeton Review
- AP Chemistry Lab/Tutorial
- Research Opportunities with Adelphi Faculty
- 3 Credit Psychology Course for Seniors
- New York State & HBCU College Tours
- 4 – Week Summer Enrichment Programs
- Field Trips: Brookhaven National Laboratories, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Science Museum. Aquarium, and more
- VEX Robotics, Lego Robotics, & Drone Competitions/Challenges

Frequently Asked Questions
Adelphi’s School Science Advancement Program provides academic enrichment in science and mathematics content areas to 7-12 grade students. Through a menu of classes, workshops, conferences and mentoring programs, SSA/NYSTEP empowers students to build fabulous college resumes and to improve the participation rate in mathematics, science, technology, health related fields and the licensed professions.

- Enrolled in grades 7-12
- New York state resident (or permanent resident alien)
- Member of a historically underrepresented group (African-American, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian or Alaskan native) OR meet income guidelines and have an overall GPA of 65 or better
Saturday Academy is conducted on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Adelphi University in the Science Building.
