Students in Adelphi's STEP and CSTEP programs from underrepresented communities and low-income households get early experience in science and STEM studies.
Robotics Program
Our Robotics Program offers students an exciting platform for learning about areas rich with career opportunities spanning science, technology, engineering and math (STEM).
Beyond science and engineering principles, robotics encourages teamwork, leadership, organization, and problem-solving among groups. Adelphi’s robotics program has three teams, our VEX Robotics team, our LEGO Robotics team, and our AVR Drone team. We also host and attend several different types of robotics competitions throughout the year, in which we compete on local, statewide, and national levels.
Eligibility for the Robotics Program
Our Robotics Program serves secondary school students all over New York State.
Students must be:
- Enrolled in Grades 7-12
- Economically disadvantaged*, or
- Black, African American/Latino, Alaskan Native or American Indian; and will benefit from academic enrichment.
High School Robotics
The VEX Robotics Design System offers students an exciting platform for learning about areas rich with career opportunities spanning science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). These are just a few of the many fields students can explore by creating with VEX Robotics technology. Beyond science and engineering principles, a VEX Robotics project encourages teamwork, leadership, and problem solving among groups. It also allows educators to easily customize projects to meet the level of students’ abilities. The affordable VEX platform is expanding rapidly and is now found in middle schools, high schools and university labs around the globe. Robotics hobbyists also appreciate the advanced capabilities of the VEX System.
New York State STEP programs will be joining with our Adelphi University’s Statewide Annual Robotics Competition. High School STEP program students will be competing with other teams from New York State STEP programs across the state to score more points than opposing teams and hone their robotics skills in a 1v1 robotics tournament.
Middle School Robotics
Adelphi University’s Annual LEGO Robotics Competition for Middle School students will take place. In this tournament, students will use LEGO NXT or EV3 kits. They will be designing their own robots with LEGO parts, LEGO programming, and driving skills to compete in an Adelphi Lego challenge design game. Over 20 teams from Long Island, Queens, and Statewide STEP programs compete each year.
