Accessibility Challenge
Event Actions
The FCPE is excited to introduce our two-week intensive Accessibility Challenge, aimed at assisting program directors and faculty in enhancing accessibility and inclusion for all students in our programs and courses.
During this two-week intensive, participants will attend workshops to learn more about accessibility, and then they will complete either the 5K Accessibility Module Challenge or the 10K Accessibility Course Challenge. This challenge can be completed for in-person, online, and/or hybrid courses. For the 5K challenge, participants will be asked to update one module in an upcoming course according to the accessibility principles outlined in the workshops. For the 10K challenge, participants will completely revise an upcoming course to follow accessibility guidelines. Participants will be assigned an instructional designer to work with one-on-one (regardless of the challenge selected).
By the end of the Accessibility Challenge, participants will be able to:
- Recognize barriers for individuals with disabilities related to accessing and being included in higher education.
- Identify the necessity and obligation of higher education institutions to adhere to accessibility standards required by federal law.
- Effectively create accessible content, including videos, audio, documents, and other materials.
- Identify how assistive technology utilizes document and media features to make learning accessible.
- Leverage UDL principles to create opportunities for multiple means of engagement, representation, and action & expression.
Credentialing
Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded a certificate featuring credentials backed by Accredible.
Time Commitment
Starting July 30, 2024 there will be three one-hour workshops and two 45-minute sessions to meet with instructional design partners. The challenge will be completed by August 9, 2024. Actual time commitment will vary based upon course chosen and challenge (5K/10K) completed.
