Recently, the U.S. Department of Education released its updated “Final Title IX Regulations,” with changes effective August 1, 2024.
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex by any educational institution, program, or activity that receives federal funding. An overview of the Final Rule is available on the Department of Education’s website.
Our University has long prioritized a comprehensive approach to addressing relationship violence and sexual misconduct. In addition to complying with Title IX, Adelphi’s existing policy adheres to New York State Education Law 129-B, which exceeds minimum federal requirements and is tailored to the needs of our community.
University administrators are reviewing the new federal regulations, released on April 19. As we work to identify impactful changes to our existing policies and procedures, they remain in full effect. Throughout this review period, our Title IX Office will share updates and welcome input from our campus community.
