The Culture Café Series allows for informal conversations between university students and faculty, staff, or administrators of color over lunch.

Bria Thorne

The purpose of the event is to provide an opportunity for students to hear from faculty, staff, and administrators of color about their life experiences, careers, successes and challenges in an intimate setting. All Adelphi community members are welcome to attend the Culture Café series. Join us this month with our guest, Bria Thorne from the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards! Bria will lead a conversation on what it is like being an immigrant from the Caribbean, especially a small island, and navigating the U.S culture, the higher education environment, and student affairs as well as how she got involved in working with Student Conduct as she believes her identity is crucial to the work that she does. She is also happy to offer advice on navigating grad school for those who are interested.

Bria Thorne (She/Her/Hers) currently works in the Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards as a Student Conduct Officer. In her role, she serves as a hearing officer for mid-level cases that involve violations of the code of conduct, co-supervises graduate assistants working in her office, and creates proactive programming around student conduct including presentations, tabling, and more.

Bria was born and raised on the beautiful island of Grenada, also known as the ‘Spice Isle’ of the Caribbean, and currently lives in Brooklyn, New York but calls Los Angeles her hometown in the US. She earned her Masters in Higher Education Administration from The University of Kansas and a Bachelors in Business Administration with a concentration on International Business from Stetson University. She is passionate about mentorship of students and career and professional development for those within higher education, especially within Student Conduct and she loves interacting and getting to know students within and outside of the conduct setting.

Free lunch will be provided for the first 15 attendees. If you have any allergies or dietary restrictions, please contact Robby Fahrenholtz (rfahrenholtz@adelphi.edu) for accommodations.
