MS in Nutrition and Dietetics

If you’re interested in a career as a registered dietitian, the MS in Nutrition and Dietetics online from Adelphi prepares you to pass the Commission on Dietetic Registration’s Registration Examination for Dietitians, which leads to the registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) designation. With a master’s degree in nutrition and dietetics under your belt, you’ll be qualified to work with communities in hospitals, schools, nursing homes, public health departments and health and fitness clubs, or counsel individual clients in your own private practice. You can also contribute your expertise in the food service and safety, workplace wellness or research fields.

New Program Option for Graduates of Adelphi’s Nutrition MS Program

Interested in earning an MS in Nutrition and Dietetics so you can become a registered dietitian or pursue another dietetics career? If you already have an MS in Nutrition degree from Adelphi, or are currently enrolled in that program, you can now earn your Nutrition and Dietetics master’s degree in less time.

With Adelphi’s Advanced Pathway plan, you can seamlessly enroll in the new MS in Nutrition and Dietetics MS program and Adelphi will waive the seven overlap courses between both MS courses.

The University will waive the following seven overlap courses:

  • 0856-549-001- Human Nutrition
  • 0856-550-001- Diet Assessment
  • 0856-551-001- Nutrition Through the Lifecycle
  • 0856-557-001- Nutrition and Chronic Disease
  • 0856- 618-001- Community Nutrition
  • 0856-619- 001- Nutrition Education and Communication
  • 0856- 729-001- Practicum in Nutrition

Students completing the Advanced Pathway will typically be taking 8 to 10 credits per semester.

All told, students in the Advanced Pathway will complete 41 credits (25 credits of coursework, 16 credits of fieldwork).

At Adelphi, we believe strongly in the power of hands-on learning and the value it adds to our students’ future careers. In the online master’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics program, your education revolves around a suite of supervising experiential learning rotations, comprising a total of 785 hours of work in professional settings. You’ll be able to locate and secure your own fieldwork preceptors with support and guidance from nutrition program faculty, which means you can complete the rotations from anywhere in the country. These experiences ensure that you develop a well-rounded understanding of various subfields—including acute care, long-term care, food service, nutrition research and community nutrition—as well as the ability to tailor your services to diverse populations.

Application Requirements

MS in Nutrition

Applicants to the master’s in Nutrition program online must have official transcripts showing a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA and completion of the following prerequisite courses:

  • An undergraduate introductory nutrition course
  • An introductory statistics course
  • A human anatomy and physiology two-course sequence with laboratory
  • A minimum 4-credit chemistry course with laboratory

MS in Nutrition and Dietetics

Applicants to the online master’s in Nutrition and Dietetics program must have official transcripts showing a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and completion of the following prerequisite courses:

  • A human anatomy and physiology two-course sequence with laboratory
  • A minimum 4-credit chemistry course with laboratory
  • A microbiology course
  • An introductory psychology course
  • An introductory sociology course

Additional Requirements

In addition to the transcripts and prerequisite courses, applicants to both online programs must submit:

  • A 500-word essay detailing the reason you are pursuing this degree
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • A minimum TOEFL score of 80 or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 for international students whose native language is not English (international students in this program are not eligible for an F-1 visa)

All applicants will be required to sit for an interview with the program director either by phone or virtual meeting.
