Healing Attachment Wounds Through Play: Play Therapy Approaches for Working With Foster and Adoptive Youth

Children with attachment disruptions due to foster care or adoption have relationship wounds that need to be acknowledged and addressed. Play is an amazing way to meet these needs and help children begin to heal.

This training will cover the core needs of adoption and ways you can meet them through thoughtful assessment, case conceptualization and treatment. This will also cover helpful interventions for adopted or foster children including Theraplay and other play-based approaches.

Objectives

• Identify and list the 7 core needs of adoption and analyze their significance in play therapy treatment for adoptive and foster youth.
• Describe and explain the appropriate assessments used in play therapy for adoptive and foster youth, considering their unique needs and backgrounds.
• Explore and describe 3 specific theraplay interventions commonly utilized in treatment for adoptive and foster youth through play therapy.
• Evaluate and assess the attachment needs of adoptive and foster youth based on attachment theory principles, and propose appropriate strategies for addressing these needs within a play therapy context.

Meet the Instructor

Jasmine Berger, LCSW-R

Jasmine Berger is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Registered Play Therapist. Jasmine worked in community mental health and as a school social worker, before starting Bud to Bloom Play Therapy. She specializes in working with children with trauma, attachment disruptions and big behaviors. She is a Foundational Theraplay Practitioner and enjoys helping families learn to connect.

Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds for cancellations made seven working days or fewer before the event for any reason—or for no-shows. We can provide credit towards a future workshop up to 24 hours before the event. After that, no credit will be issued.
