Pics, Texts and Tracking: Understanding and Addressing Digital Dating Abuse

Relationship violence is still a common problem for young people today and while professionals may be familiar with common forms of power and control including verbal, emotional, and physical abuse, many adults are less familiar with the ways technology and social media can be used as tools of power and control in dating situations.
This training will start by exploring the most common ways that technology and social media can be used in abusive situations and end with practical strategies that participants can use to identify warning signs of digital dating abuse and have critical conversations with both survivors and perpetrators.
Learning Objectives
Participants will be able to:
- Define digital dating abuse and how it connects to larger systems of power and control
- Review how digital dating abuse shows up on different social media platforms and how it may impact young people’s mental health
- Explore how digital dating abuse can look different for youth depending on their identities
- Learn strategies to open up conversations about digital dating abuse and be able to identify and support youth who are coping with or perpetrating it

Faculty Bio
Kaleigh Cornelison, MSW
Kaleigh Cornelison is a trainer, facilitator, and social worker. She supports nonprofits, health centers, and schools through engaging and creative professional development opportunities. Kaleigh specializes in communication, conflict, team building, trauma-informed care, facilitation skills, and youth development. She also works as the Manager of Quality Improvement, Youth Engagement and Resource Development for the Adolescent Health Initiative at Michigan Medicine. She has a Master’s degree in Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis with a specialization in nonprofit management. She lives in beautiful Ann Arbor, Michigan with her wife, rescue pup, Calvin, and baby, Amelia.
Credentialling Information
 Adelphi University School of Social Work is an approved provider for continuing education credits for the following:

Successful completion for the award of approved continuing education credits requires attendance at the entire training/workshop and submission of a completed evaluation form.

Cancellation Policy
Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds for cancellations made seven working days or fewer before the event for any reason—or for no-shows. We can provide credit towards a future workshop up to 24 hours before the event. After that, no credit will be issued.
