Beyond Inclusion: LGBTQ+ “Companion-able” Curricula in the Music Classroom
Initiatives to create LGBTQ+ supportive classrooms are often anchored in efforts related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Reconceptualizing curricula to be more affirming and inclusive is essential to improving school culture for LGBTQ+ students. Using an intersectional theoretical lens, this session will explore comprehensive approaches for developing gender expansive and LGBTQ+ affirming practices in K-12 ensemble and general music settings. Drawing on a variety of instructional resources, the presenter will impart critical tools and pedagogical strategies to embrace diversity and foster LGBTQ-affirming practices in music classrooms.
The Adelphi University Music Education Webinar Series offers music educators exciting opportunities to engage with renowned experts in the field while exploring current topics in music education. All sessions will consist of informative presentations and moderated Q&A sessions.
