Overview

Systemic racism, ethnocentrism and xenophobia contribute to the negative experiences of Latinx children and families in the US. The daily interaction with microaggressions, prejudice, discrimination, and racism can lead to race-based stress in these youth and, left untreated, evolve into racial trauma. This workshop will explore the different systems that contribute to racial trauma and negative mental health outcomes for Latinx children and families. Participants will also explore the layered experience of racial trauma in Latinx children and adults as well as the clinical presentations of racial trauma in Latinx youth.

Learning Objectives

In this two day workshop, participants will:

  • Explore the impact of racial stress and trauma on mental and physical health of Latinx children and families.
  • Analyze and discuss the sources of racial trauma in Latinx children and families.
  • Formulate expressive interventions to help with racial trauma in Latinx youth

Faculty Bio

Yuvelqui Rattigan, LCSW, RPT

Yuvelqui Rattigan, also known as Yuvi, is an experienced bilingual Maryland Board Approved Supervisor Licensed Certified Social Worker- Clinical and Registered Play Therapist. She is a strong psychotherapist with specialized training in EMDR, Play Therapy, Grief & Bereavement, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Informed Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Family Therapy.
In 2015, Yuvelqui founded Oasis Therapeutic Services, LLC to deliver premier mental health services to individuals and organizations in honor of their lived experiences and beyond a mental health diagnosis. Passionate about working with the whole person, she engages individuals in a collaborative process through a style of authenticity infused with compassion and candor. As an educator, Yuvi is passionate about mental health training and empowering learners to remain mindfully curious about mental health. As a healer, Yuvi’s ultimate career goal is to be the therapist ‘fired’ by individuals after successful completion of self-defined goals resulting in their full engagement of gratifying lives they themselves crafted.
Currently, Yuvi accepted the role of Mental Health Program Manager at the Center for Hope, formerly known as the Baltimore Child Abuse Center. As the Program Manager, Yuvi is responsible for the supervision of all Mental Health Program staff and all program operations while supporting the mission of the Center for Hope.
Before working at the Center for Hope, Yuvi was a Therapist with the Family Bereavement Center in the Office of the Baltimore City State’s Attorney. As a Therapist, her emphasis was working with children and adolescents in Baltimore City that have witnessed homicides and also treating children and adolescents who have lost a loved one in this manner. In the past, Yuvi worked as a Bilingual Outpatient Mental Health Therapist in Prince George’s County, MD, Care Coordinator for UnitedHealth Care and as the Constituent Services Coordinator/ Community Liaison for then State Senator Eric T. Schneiderman in New York.
Yuvi graduated Cum Laude from Marist College with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work. She proceeded to obtain her Master’s degree in Social Work from the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College.
Yuvi serves as a Member of The Board of Advisors for the National Science and Technology Medals Foundation’s inSTEM program providing trauma-informed and holistically supportive guidance for the development and execution of the program. Yuvi actively promotes restoring the emotional health of Black children who suffer from higher rates of stress related to racial discrimination in the United States as a member of the Black Mental Health Connect Clinical Advisory Team.

Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds for cancellations made seven working days or fewer before the event for any reason—or for no-shows. We can provide credit towards a future workshop up to 24 hours before the event. After that, no credit will be issued.
