This course introduces psychotherapists to the legal responsibilities, risks and dilemmas inherent in their work with minors and their families.

Topics include record-keeping, informed consent, reporting of child maltreatment, parental access to records, dealing with lawyers and subpoenas, termination and abandonment, conflicts of interest and boundaries, and insurance reimbursement.

Heather Saslovsky has spent her adult life in New York City Family Court in a variety of positions, including the last sixteen years as an attorney who represents children.  Heather’s practice is mostly delinquency defense and child protective matters, but also includes other Family Court matters on occasion, including custody, visitation, paternity, and order of protection cases.  Heather enjoys interdisciplinary collaboration, watching the Yankees, funny t-shirts, and hanging out with her family.

Cancellation Policy

Full refunds are issued for cancellations made up to 7 working days before the event. Cancellations of less than 7 days for any reason, or no-shows are not refunded. Credit towards a future event/workshop are issued for cancellations less than 7 days and up to 24 hours before the event. No credit is issued for cancellations less than 24 hours before the events or no-shows.
