Inspired by the success of the Dinner and Dialogue Series, Out to Lunch allows for informal conversations between students and LGBTQ+ faculty, staff, and administrators over lunch. The purpose of the lunch series is to provide an opportunity for students to hear from faculty, staff, and administrators in the LGBTQ+ community about their life experiences, careers, successes and challenges in an intimate setting. All university students are welcome to attend the Out for Lunch series.

Dr. Eric Knee (he/him) is an assistant professor in the Department of Health & Sport Sciences within the College of Education & Health Sciences at Adelphi University. His research studies (a) the intersectional experiences of queer populations within leisure contexts and (b) organizational “inclusion” initiatives for non-dominant populations (i.e. those who are not white, cisgender, upper-class, able-bodied, heterosexual, etc.). Specific studies have looked at the relationship of queer homeless youth to an urban LGBTQ neighborhood, the future of queer leisure spaces during COVID-19, the impacts of LGBTQ-diversity training on professional competencies, queer youth sport spaces, and the case of the “world’s first LGBTQ sport and recreation center.” A midwest transplant now residing in Brooklyn, Dr. Knee’s personal experiences navigating inequitable social structures in his life continues to inform the social justice orientation of his work today.
