Sexuality is foundationally and fundamentally an essential part of our physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual lives. It is built into who we are as people. According to AASECT (American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists), “Sexuality is at the core of human personality; It’s not what you do, but who you are”. It is obvious that sexuality is paramount and integral to a person’s identity. Moreover sex, sexuality and sexual content, can be accessed on just about every social media platform today. It is perhaps one of the greatest areas of anxiety and depression for many, and yet many social workers and mental health professionals do not regularly explore sexuality unless clients present with a specific sexual concern.

This workshop will help participants confront their own barriers and concerns when it comes to the sex talk, as well as equip participants with language and intervention tools necessary for effective engagement.

Learning Objectives:

After our workshop, participants will be able to:

• apply language and interventions in addressing issues of sexuality, and finally
• utilize a framework in addressing subjects of sexuality.

Gwen Butler LCSW CST is an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist and Educator specializing in Individual, Couples, and Group Counseling. With a Private Practice in Long Island, New York Gwen Butler offers a permission-based, strength-based, spiritual-based, and complete-health-approach to discovering the next level of sexual healing, growth and potential. Passionate about the mental and sexual health of all vagina-owners, identified as ‘woman’ or not, of all backgrounds, orientations, and faiths, and their partners who share intimately and genuinely with them. Gwen Butler offers the healing and guidance that can only come from the empowerment of personal process and personal touch. As a professor of social work at Adelphi University, Gwen Butler has taken on the ever-important role of teaching the professionals of the future. Gwen further serves the Adelphi University community as a Counselor in the Student Counseling Center providing mental health care to students.

New York State Office of the Professions (NYSED) regulations require that participants must be present for the entire approved educational activity in order to receive a certificate for continuing education hours. There is no accommodation in the State regulations for late arrival, late return from lunch or breaks, or early departure. According to NYSED, in order to award social work CEs; “When you offer a multi-day or multi-part course/educational activity, the learner must complete all parts in order to earn the certificate for contact hours, in the same way that a student must complete a semester-long course to receive college credit. You may not award partial credit for a program, even a one-day program, if the learner does not complete all requirements at that time.

Cancellation Policy

Unfortunately, we cannot provide refunds for cancellations made seven working days or fewer before the event for any reason—or for no-shows. We can provide credit towards a future workshop up to 24 hours before the event. After that, no credit will be issued.
