Research Resources for Alumni
A list of our alumni-accessible databases and resources.
Adelphi University offers Alumni special borrowing and research materials for those who register with the Office of Alumni Relations (Nexus Building room 200). Registered alumni may receive an identification card that lets them borrow certain physical materials from the libraries.
After receiving an ID, alumni should visit the IT Help Desk located on the 2nd floor of the library or call 516.877.3340 if they plan to use alumni accessible databases. Having an alumni ID does not automatically register an alumni with the Office of Information Technology.
Online Databases
Adelphi University Libraries have robust subscriptions to online resources for alumni. Please visit our alumni databases page for an up-to-date list of online resources available. Please note that registering as alumni does not automatically enter the user into the library pool of users. If you are a registered alumni and wish to use alumni accessible databases please visit the Service Point on the first floor of Swirbul library or call 516.877.3570.
Borrowing Materials
Alumni must present a valid AU Alumni ID card when borrowing physical material from the libraries. Please consult the alumni loan policies to determine which physical items are loanable to alumni and for how long. Alumni patrons have the ability to renew items checked out to them by clicking on the My Library Account link on our website, or in person at any AU library. Items that are overdue cannot be renewed online.
Returning Materials
Physical material may be returned to the library at the Service Point at Swirbul Library, the book drop outside of the main entrance to Swirbul Library, or any other User Services desk in the Manhattan or Hauppauge Libraries. Alumni may also request a UPS mailing label to ship their items back to the Libraries.
Lost and Damaged Materials
Library staff ensures that materials are in good condition before being checked out to patrons. In most instances, the Libraries can repair books so that they may continue to be circulated. In the event that material is returned in such poor condition that it can no longer be circulated, the borrower is responsible for replacing the material. The charge to the patron is the cost of the item plus a fifteen-dollar ($15.00) processing fee. Lost library materials must be reported to the Libraries immediately. The charge for lost materials is the current price of the replacement plus a processing fee.
Penalties
The Library reserves the right to suspend the privileges of Alumni Borrowers who accumulate overdue charges in excess of fifteen dollars ($15.00), have a total of ten (10) overdue items or have failed to return overdue recalled items.
