This seminar series is based on the collective expertise of faculty at the Derner School of Psychology, School of Social Work, and The Institute for Parenting at Adelphi University in educating mental health professionals in the theory and practice of intensive, psychoanalytically-informed psychotherapy with individuals who have experienced trauma.
Traumatic experiences and individuals’ reactions to them are complex, cumulative, chronic and multilayered. The nature of the trauma and its timing (e.g. age) or duration (e.g. complex, acute), as well as pre-existing factors, all contribute to the uniqueness and multidimensionality of the individual’s response to traumatic stress and its lingering effects.
It is widely accepted that traumatic stress is detrimental to the developing mind and body, leaving its traces on brain chemistry and structure, as well as personality formation. Chronic self-dysregulation, interpersonal distrust, shame, low self-esteem and even amnesia, dissociation or personality disorder are potential long-lasting effects of early traumatic experiences. We are vulnerable to remaining psychologically stuck at that early stage if we do not heal from the impact of trauma.
This seminar series is designed to introduce participants to a wide range of traumata and their effects on the human mind across the life span. Each seminar is taught by one of our distinguished faculty—who is highly experienced clinicians in trauma.
Who should apply?
This program is open to all licensed/certified mental health professionals with at least two years of clinical experience post license/certification, who wish to expand their knowledge base and clinical skills for serving traumatized individuals and communities.

Cancellation Policy
Full refunds are issued for cancellations made up to 7 working days before the event. Cancellations of less than 7 days for any reason, or no-shows are not refunded. Credit towards a future event/workshop are issued for cancellations less than 7 days and up to 24 hours before the event. No credit is issued for cancellations less than 24 hours before the events or no-shows.
