Event Actions
Part of the Ten-Session Seminar Series for School Psychologists, School Social Workers and School Guidance Counselors
Seminars meet via Zoom.
This workshop session is designed to broaden the therapeutic view and enhance the skills of clinicians treating impoverished children of Color. The workshop will promote relevant knowledge of racial, cultural, and economic stressors on families that they serve. Attention will be given to factors that negatively impact the treatment. We will discuss culturally, racially, and socially competent strategies that help to restore previously depleted individual and familial functioning. Ways to strengthen the treatment alliance with the patient will be addressed as well.
Learning Objectives:
By the completion of this one-session workshop participants will be able to:
- Recognize which social and cognitive skills are most adaptive under adverse and impoverished conditions.
- Describe two ways of enhancing a collaborative alliance with parents that therapeutically informs the individual treatment.
