About the Speaker

Mary Jahrsdoerfer, Ph. D., RN

Dr. Mary Jahrsdoerfer is a clinical authority in emerging industry healthcare technology and clinical surveillance, bridging the gap to safe clinical practice and patient safety in the acute care setting. As well as teaching at Adelphi University, Dr. Jahrsdoerfer is employed at the Northwell Hospital System as Clinical Innovation Scientist for Emerging Health Technologies for all 23 hospitals. Interfacing decades of experience in hospital, industry, and academia, her research intent with wireless, wearable, mobile, and tele-technology is to demonstrate that by trending and analyzing disparate clinical data points, a predictive warning may be communicated to clinical staff – prior to a serious adverse patient event. Preceding her current role, she served as Chief Nursing Information Officer at Capsule Technologies (clinical surveillance & medical -device integration); Chief Nursing Information Officer at Bernoulli Health (clinical surveillance through predictive analytics); Chief Nursing Officer at Extension Healthcare (mobile health IT company); all industry roles focused on a strategic intent to cultivate an understanding amongst nationwide hospital leaders that we are in the midst of a paradigm shift in the way patient information should be safely disseminated. Previous to that, she served as Clinical Scientist at Philips Healthcare, where she conducted evidenced-based research, publication in peer-reviewed journals, and public speaking to convey her message. Mary has her clinical foundation as a critical care nurse, with a focus in cardiology. With over 2 decades of experience in strong hospital leadership and complex program development, her career interests grew to emerging healthcare technologies specific to patient safety. Mary has a BSN from Stony Brook University; an MHA from Long Island University; and a PhD from UMass Amherst.
