Adelphi Professor of Flute and Ensembles since 1994.

Linda DiMartino Wetherill is director and flutist of Counterpoint-Italy, an International competition for composers, founded in New York in 2009, that has evolved into a coordinate summer chamber music festival “Lucca International Festival” and academy for composition, improvisation and chamber music in Lucca, Italy. Her “Flute Recital” of solo works representing world traditions received accolades as one of the top solo flute recordings of all time, and is downloadable from the Naxos Library. Wetherill divides her time between Lucca, in Tuscany, and NYC, where she is the professor at Adelphi University for flutists, and also teaches history, arts, chamber music, and world music courses at other universities in NY. In addition to the Counterpoint-Italy premieres and activities, she performs with the Orchestra of the Choral Society of the Hamptons, Carman Moore’s Sky Music ensemble, The International Street Cannibals, and as soloist in New York City and European capitals. 

Prior to Adelphi, Wetherill was a professor at Turkish Universities in history, contemporary music and flute, and has held positions of first solo flutist with Paris Ensemble Intercontemporain of Pierre Boulez, Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra and La Scala Opera in Milan. She has performed and taught in major conservatories and festivals in England, France, Italy, Spain, and Turkey. Also she has toured all the continents as a Cultural Ambassador for the United States Information Service, affording a vast collection of scores and collaborations in non-Western traditional and contemporary practices.

Wetherill has been a Professor of Flute and Ensembles at Adelphi University since 1994.
