The First-Year Academic Writing Award, sponsored by the First Year Experience Committee, is awarded for an outstanding essay responding to this year’s AU selected reading, The Color of Water, by James McBride. The prize is a $250 gift card to Barnes and Noble. All entrants worked hard on their essays and revised them via workshops with tutors at the Writing Center.
We would like to congratulate first-year student Farah Sarwari on winning the 2015-2016 First-Year Academic Writing Award!
Farah, a Biology major, is a member of the Levermore Global Scholars program, where she is currently working on a group service project to help children and families in need. Farah is also a part of the Biology Club and Pre-Professional Club. She assisted in the blood drive and participated in the walk to help cure breast cancer. She is also an aspiring dentist and volunteers at a dental clinic.
Congrats Farah on your accomplishment, and a big thank you to all of our essay contest participants!
