In this experiential workshop, participants will be introduced to the Cognitive Therapy Rating Scale (CTRS), an 11-item instrument used in research and clinical practice to evaluate therapist competency in delivering CBT. Participants will learn how competency on the CTRS is achieved and the most common ‘therapist errors’ will be described. Strategies to overcome therapist errors will be taught. Video-demonstrations and role-play practice will reinforce skills. Finally, the steps to become certified in CBT by the Academy of Cognitive Therapy will be explained.

Noah Clyman HeadshotNoah Clyman, LCSW, ACT  is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, certified in cognitive therapy by the Academy of Cognitive Therapy. Noah is the first clinical social worker in the state of New York to become an Academy-certified Trainer Consultant. He is on the Academy’s Membership Committee and the Credentialing Committee, evaluating the work samples of therapists applying for certification in CBT.

Noah’s mission is to make quality, culturally-competent CBT available to the public. In November 2012, he founded NYC Cognitive Therapy, the first CBT center that places particular emphasis on diversity, serving populations such as the LGBTQ community, and those living with HIV/AIDS. The Center offers individual, couples, and group therapy, and has a sliding scale to make therapy affordable.

Along with providing psychotherapy, Noah enjoys teaching clinicians the art of CBT. He provides clinical supervision and case consultation. The process to become CBT-certified is intensive and often feels daunting, and Noah guides clinicians through the process and breaks it into manageable steps.
