Technology changes that were implemented during the January intersession.
Welcome to the start of a new semester at Adelphi University. The Office of Information Technology is continually working with other campus departments to enhance technology services for the Adelphi community. As we work on more projects for the spring semester, we wanted to keep you up to date on changes that were implemented during the January intersession.
eCampus Upgrade
The new eCampus features launched on January 15 include: a brand-new look that feels more like the rest of Adelphi’s site; log in directly from the Welcome screen; a customizable right column on the “My eCampus” page; eCampus “Communities” are now called “Intranet Sites” and will be expanded in spring; Bookmark your most frequently visited Intranet Sites on your My eCampus page; designate 10 Favorite Services, increased from the previous limit of 5; a customizable QuickLinks portlet where you can quickly access important web pages.
Technology Service Catalog
There is a new way to access information about technology services at Adelphi. The Technology Service Catalog can be viewed by category, audience, A-Z or via search.
Assistive Listening System
Working together with the Office of Disability Support Services and Human Resources, we installed a Hearing Loop assistive listening system in Post Hall Room 106. Our installation is unique; no educational facility on Long Island has a system like Adelphi’s, designed for both the instructor and the audience.
Wifi Upgrade
Upgraded and supplemented WiFi coverage in all the residence halls and public spaces. All residence halls are now 802.11n capable and capacity has increased.
Network Bandwidth
Network bandwidth has been increased by 40% to ensure optimal service for access, research, and downloading information. Network security has also been improved.
Student Printing Policy
Due to the cost of ink, please note that the charge for color printing has increased, and duplex printing is now considered two prints instead of a single print charge. View printing policy.
Security Alerts Postings
Have a suspicious message in your email inbox or voicemail? Check it.adelphi.edu/security/alerts to see if it’s a common threat. If not, and it still looks suspicious, please do not click on any links or attachments and forward to the help desk.
VMWare Upgrade
By end of February we will have upgraded our VMWare environment to the latest version and have 60 gigabits/sec network connectivity to our VMWare environments. We will also have greater resiliency and the ability to recover quickly from a catastrophic event in our Data Center.
