Adelphi professors on Asperger's, internships, media use; awards for President Scott and Provost Gayle Insler

Stephen Shore, assistant professor of special education in the Ruth S. Ammon School, was quoted in an article on Asperger’s in the workplace. The topic has been trending recently after an incident that occurred in a Wegmans grocery store. The article which appeared on Syracuse.com, consulted experts for advice on handling Asperger’s in the workplace.


Thomas J. Ward ‘93, executive director of the Center for Career Development, offered his advice to college students on interning in an article on nerdwallet.com. Ward said that interning allows college students to explore their interests by gaining on the job experience and interacting with individuals in the field.


Mark Grabowski, assistant professor of journalism, was mentioned in an article on huffingtonpost.com about the absence of the use of technology by high school and college news publications. According to the article, high school students may not be following the right news sources either. As Grabowski said, students who use social media may get inaccurate information if the sources they follow aren’t legitimate.


President Scott’s Exploring Critical Issues, an award winning television series now in its tenth year, was highlighted on longislandexchange.com. Dr. Scotts most recent program “The Three Economies of America,” airs over two weeks this month and next in New York and Connecticut. Among the panelists are Dr. Mariano Torras, professor of economics and Michael J. Driscoll, clinical assistant professor of finance, both in the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business.


On Thursday November 14, Dr. Gayle D. Insler, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, was honored with the Outstanding Leadership Award at the Science Museum of Long Island’s (SMLI) BIG BANG BALL at the Garden City Country Club. Among her many contributions to Adelphi, Dr. Insler helped to orchestrate the launching of the Center for Health Innovation last year. Dr. Insler also serves as Secretary on the NUB Health Foundation Board – the philanthropic board of Nassau University Medical Center. The article can be found on gcnews.com.
