The day-long event featured a panel discussion by distinguished journalism professionals on the future of journalism along with smaller group discussions. Students also had the opportunity to submit examples of their work for the Quill Awards competition, and winners were honored at the March 20 event, held in the University Center.
“Despite all the gloomy reports about the state of the media, journalism is alive and well. It’s just in a state of flux,” Prof. Mark Grabowski, who hosted the event, told attendees. “It’s an exciting time to be a journalist. You have a chance to be pioneers.” Grabowski was joined on the panel with adjunct faculty Sal Fallica and Liza Burby, Delphian editors Brett Spielberg ’13 and Stephen Levine ’14, and Jason Molinet, regional editor of Patch.com. Spielberg also was actively involved in the organization of the event.
The day was capped by the presentation of the university’s Quill Awards. Student newspapers were awarded the prestigious Quill in some dozen categories including best newspaper and best reporter.
The Communications Department, Office of Public Affairs and Marketing & Creative Services organized Press Day, which is the largest outreach event sponsored by Adelphi.
