An innovative film workshop for high school students called “In the Director’s Chair” will make its debut this summer.

The department hopes that “In the Director’s Cut” will evolve into an international workshop that brings young international artists to Adelphi to work along with local students. “I think the program is a great opportunity for Adelphi to train young artists in new media,” says Ross. “It will contribute to the evolution of the form, and arm this new generation with the ability to say, shout, or sing whatever they want via the options of new media.” “The goal of my work is to have students hone their post-production skills with the goal of creating a short piece and then promoting that piece through social media,” says Shaheen.
Ross is pioneering yet another digital humanities project that he calls “Shared Roots.” “In simplistic terms it will be a social networking site for ancestors,” he says. “People will post the oldest photo they have of a relative and then take on the persona of that relative to tell their story. Students as their relative will interact with other students in a similar role.” Ross has more ambitious plans for this initiative, with Adelphi “student-relatives” interacting with students in foreign countries acting in a similar role. Ross expects the site to be assembled in the coming months.
