Adam Katz, ’81, a Forbes lister and owner of Talon Air was in Long Island Business News on May 3. Katz is in the process of securing rights to become a fixed-base operator at Republic Airport, where the company has a fleet of 25 jets, helicopters and sea planes. Katz is a pilot and licensed to practice law in New York, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia.
Carlton Douglas Ridenhour ’84, known to the public as Chuck D, was featured on The Huffington Post website on May 8 for being a speaker as well as recipient of an honorary doctorate at Adelphi’s 177th Commencement Ceremony taking place May 19, 2013.
On May 6, an article in Newsday recognized Adelphi’s Women’s Field Hockey team for their participation in the Long Island Marathon. The team participated in the 10K after encouragement from coach Gloria O’Connor, who has participated in the marathon for 20 years.
President Scott’s first two articles of a six-part series called “Thoughts on College Education” were published in Anton Community Newspapers on May 3 and 10. In the articles, Dr. Scott discusses what colleges should offer students and factors to consider when choosing a college.
Patrick R. Coonan, EdD, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE, Dean of Adelphi’s School of Nursing, was a contributor to an article in a special supplement of USA Today in honor of National Nurses Week. In the article, Dean Coonan discusses the need for nurses to obtain advanced degrees.
Honors College student Anustha Shrestha ’15, an economics major and president of the International Student Society, is the recipient of the GEICO Achievement Award which grants students $1,000 for their dedication to academic success, leadership and service.
