Super Bowl Media Stars Hail from Adelphi University

The Super Bowl is the biggest event for not only football fans but for the biggest brands to air commercials to a national audience estimated at more than 170 million people. Thus, the talent on the field is just as important as the talent involved with the commercials.

The talents and creativity of Adelphi University alumni will be showcased in commercials from Chevrolet, Samsung Electronics, and Best Buy.

Zachary Borst ’07, 26, won the Chevrolet Route 66 advertising competition. In addition to winning the $25,000 prize, his commercial titled, “Chevy Happy Grad,” will air during the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 5. Chevrolet said Borst’s ad beat out competitors in a field of 400 scripts and 198 films by independent filmmakers from 32 countries. Michael Ilkiw ’07 also worked on the Chevrolet commercial as the camera operator, and assisted with producing and casting.

Peter Friedman ’72, president and partner of F360, served as the television production consultant for Samsung Electronics‘ commercials. Friedman oversaw the filming of the commercials and acted as the production liaison between the ad agency and Samsung. For more than 30 years, Friedman has worked on global brands such as Coca-Cola, Pepsi, MasterCard, Verizon and Nike, to name a few. The Samsung spot will air in the early part of the fourth quarter during the Super Bowl.

Anthony Bertram ’99 is an actor (first to speak) in a Best Buy spot. In addition, he has done voiceover and commercial work for Sour Patch Kids, InvinciblesAlvin and The Chipmunks, Outback Steakhouse, and Disney.
