Teaching the sciences is an art, and one that can be taught. Adelphi is helping faculty members from nearby colleges and universities improve their pedagogical skills by hosting the Mobile Summer Institute, a series of workshops devoted to evidence-based student-centered teaching approaches that have been found to improve student learning, especially among first-generation college students and members of underrepresented groups.
The workshops—which are also being held at Columbia, Ohio State, Georgia, North Carolina and other top universities—were brought to Adelphi by Eugenia Villa-Cuesta, assistant professor of biology.
