Six College of Nursing and Public Health faculty and one doctoral student presented papers and posters at the Eastern Nursing Research Society’s 29th annual Scientific Sessions in April 2017 in Philadelphia.
“Underscoring our commitment to nursing research and its dissemination, Adelphi is also a longtime supporting sponsor of the conference,” said Elaine Smith ‘78, Ed.D., the College’s acting dean. All told, she added, “We have much to be proud of.”
The presenters included Maureen Roller, D.N.P., presenting on “Cultural Competency: Measuring the Sustainability Following an Immersion Program for Undergraduate Nursing Student,” and Susan Zori, D.N.P., on “Reflective Journaling to Increase Critical Thinking for R.N.s.” Dr. Roller and Dr. Zori, also presented jointly on “The Impact of Instituting in a Fundamental Nursing Course the Pedagogy of Process-Oriented Guided-Inquiry Learning (POGIL).”
In addition, Lori Persico presented on “Comparison of Debriefing Methods on Clinical Reasoning, Psychological Safety and Learner Satisfaction in Simulation-Based Education”; Yiyuan Sun, D.N.Sc., on mammography screening among Chinese American women; and Ditsapelo McFarland, Ph.D., on barriers to cervical cancer screening in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Jane White, Ph.D., the College’s professor and associate dean and a visiting scientist with Northwell Health, addressed a session on “Clinical-Academic Partnerships as a Vehicle for Strengthening Research and Evidence-Based Practice.” Marie Mulligan, Ph.D. ’17, presented on “Developing and Validating an Instrument to Measure Perceived Authentic Nurse Leadership.”
Patricia Donohue-Porter, Ph.D., chaired the ENRS Research Interest Group’s Theory Development meeting. She and several CNPH faculty—Dr. White, Dr. McFarland, Dr. Sun and Edmund Pajarillo, Ph.D.—served as abstract reviewers for conference submissions.
