Adelphi University strives to ensure that all members of our community can study and work in an environment that is safe and welcoming.
Statement by President Christine M. Riordan, Ph.D.
As “One Adelphi,” I believe we should stand together in support of all of our students, regardless of their immigration status. As president, I must strive to ensure that all members of our community can study and work in an environment that is safe and welcoming. I acknowledge that events of the past few weeks and months have produced anxiety and uncertainty for many people on campus, especially those representing different perspectives and backgrounds. This may be particularly true for many of the University’s international students, as well as those students and families who may be documented or undocumented immigrants.
Adelphi University recognizes that there are a number of legitimate viewpoints being expressed in the ongoing public discussion around immigration.
The University will remain a welcoming and supportive community for all of its students, while recognizing that it is obligated to operate within the limits of applicable federal and state laws. The University will do everything it can to protect its students to the extent the law allows.
Adelphi University remains committed to making our community a place where everyone can work, learn and live without fear of harassment, intimidation or discrimination. I hope the steps we take today will ensure it remains that way.
Thank you.
Christine M. Riordan, Ph.D., President
