Revealing Winners of the Most Physically Educated Contest at Adelphi University on Wednesday, January 13

WHAT:
Helping to build a pathway toward a healthy lifestyle and productive adulthood is one of the best investments we can make for our nation’s future. Eight to 18-year old adolescents spend an average of 7.5 hours a day using entertainment media, including, TV, computers, video games, cell phones and movies, and only one-third of high school students get the recommended levels of physical activity.

Adelphi University has launched an annual Most Physically Educated Competition dedicated to helping solve the problem of childhood obesity and fostering an environment to support healthy choices and a commitment to a lifetime of physical activity. The contest will also celebrate the physical education accomplishments and showcase the knowledge of high school juniors from Nassau County on what it means to be a physically educated person.

About 30 students from 15 Nassau County High Schools will work in mixed, co-ed teams to compete in fitness events, team sports and some individual challenges such as: Push-Ups, Badminton, Basketball, and more. During the lunch/awards ceremony, high school student winners will read their personal essays on the topic of lifetime physical activity. In addition, 15 teachers and seven district athletic directors will be in attendance.

Co-sponsored by the Adelphi University Ruth S. Ammon School of Education, Nassau Zone of the New York State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (NYS AHPERD).
