Personal Statement

A clinical authority in emerging industry healthcare technology, bridging the gap between safe clinical practice and patient safety in the acute care setting. As well as teaching at Adelphi University, Dr. Jahrsdoerfer is employed as the Senior Advisor, Clinical Informatics at Bernoulli Healthcare. This industry leader conducts real-time predictive clinical analytics in the acute-care hospital setting. Her research intent is to demonstrate that by simultaneously analyzing disparate clinical data points, a predictive warning may be communicated to clinical staff - prior to a serious adverse patient event. Preceding her current role, she served as Chief Nursing Officer at Extension Healthcare, a mobile health IT Company, where her strategic intent was to cultivate an understanding amongst hospital leaders, that as a nation, we are in the midst of a paradigm shift in the way patient information should be safely disseminated. Previous to that, she served as Clinical Scientist at Philips Healthcare, where she conducted evidenced-based research, publication in peer-reviewed journals, and public speaking to convey her message. Mary has her clinical foundation as a critical care nurse, with a focus on cardiology. With over 2 decades of experience in hospital leadership and complex program development, her career interests grew to emerging healthcare technologies specific to patient safety. Mary has a BSN from Stony Brook University; an MHA from Long Island University; and a Ph.D. from UMass Amherst. Mary is a Registered Nurse, a member of the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, and Fellow of the NY Academy of Medicine.

 Developed goals and objectives urging the Joint Commission to set safety standards around mobile communication of patient confidential information and physician texting of orders. Result: TJC followed suit and rescinded the original directive
